Yoga is a profound system of holistic self care that originated
in India over 5000 years ago. It is a philosophy and a science
with no religious dogma attached. Most people's introduction to
yoga is through the postures, but there are other avenues to explore,
such as breath awareness and meditation.
Perhaps the first and most profound
benefit that most Westerners notice is stress reduction. Stress
manifests in many ways, very often as back or neck pain. These
and other symptoms are alleviated as the body and mind relax through
the practice of yoga. Additional benefits of yoga are improved
circulation and an increase in strength and flexibility. By bringing
balance to your body and mind, the practice of yoga increases
your vitality and overall sense of well being.
